About

Fresh Fenix was started in 2020, when Brent decided to finally start selling his famous salsa he had been making for over 20 years. He started selling fresh salsas and microgreens at the farmers’ market and the next year began working on recipes for shelf stable hot sauces and chili oils. At Fresh Fenix we have an interest in urban farming, grow all of our own charapita peppers  and try to use as many homegrown peppers and veggies as we can.  In the future, we want to develop more hot sauce flavors, grow more peppers, and aspire to work with others to expand and build urban farms.

Brent has been eating hot sauce his entire life and has tried craft sauces here in the U.S. as well as sauces from around the world. He has traveled all over Latin America and Asia and always has a bag of local peppers or a bottle of hot sauce to spice foods up. Hot sauce can make just about any food delicious and being a hot sauce user is empowering!

Every sauce he makes, he wants to be unique. When developing a sauce, an idea or inspiration comes first. Then he casts a wide net and thinks of every possible ingredient or way to do it. Then a test batch is made and meticulously, batch by batch, he tweaks the ingredients until it is perfect.

For spicy peppers, every batch is a combination of homegrown charapita peppers plus another another pepper. Basing his sauces on the charapita pepper, a hard to grow and extremely laborious pepper to pick may seem foolish but it was intentional. He wanted to learn how to grow food and by doing this the only possible way to grow the business of selling hot sauce was also to grow his ability to grow peppers.
